Breezing through Chicago

This past month, I traveled to Chicago for a work-related engagement. Chicago has been on my list of places to see for a while, and I was looking forward to working on a cool project and getting the chance to see the city. Although I only had a little bit of time to explore, below are some the highlights which left me wanting to return:

48 Hours in Montréal

I recently made a trip up north to Montréal for a mini-vacation and some family bonding time. I love Canada - I've been to Toronto and Quebec City before - and this was my first time in Montréal. I studied French throughout high school and college, and the main languages spoken in Montréal are English and French, so I was looking forward to practicing my French while exploring the city (update: French is still rusty).

Eastern Market

My first winter in DC has turned out to be relatively mild, and we've been graced with a handful of 60+ degree days. I chose to use one of those days to venture beyond my usual stomping grounds and check out Eastern Market.

DC Winter Restaurant Week

With five months of city-living under my belt, it was time to explore one of the tastiest events a city has to offer: restaurant week. DC’s winter restaurant week kicked off January 25th, and is a week-long blessing of restaurant deals. Essentially, you pay a fixed price ($22/lunch or $35/dinner), and then you get to choose three (or sometimes four) courses from the restaurant’s restaurant week options. Trying to select a restaurant can be an overwhelming task (I had about 20 menu tabs open at one point), but restaurant week is really a great opportunity to try places you may not ordinarily think to go to.

Something Old, Something New

I know I am long overdue for a blog update, but I’ve been patiently waiting for the right moment. So much has happened in the last three months, but I am finally getting truly settled into my life in DC and the world of adulthood. Though I’ve technically lived in DC for two-and-a-half months, I’ve yet do any real exploring. It was easy to fall into a routine of frequenting my favorite tried and true places, but DC has so much more to offer beyond the confines of my neighborhood (which I love, by the way).
